About The Clear Sum
Plain-English calculators for the UK money questions that usually mean an afternoon of open tabs.
Why this exists
Most of the money questions people search for — "how much redundancy am I owed", "what's my take-home pay", "how much stamp duty will I pay" — have a precise, calculable answer. But the tools that answer them are often buried behind sign-up forms, cluttered with ads before you reach the result, or written in language that assumes you already know the jargon.
The Clear Sum is built around one idea: enter your numbers, get one clear answer, see exactly how it was worked out. No account, no email address, no "results sent to your inbox".
How the numbers are kept current
Every calculator uses published UK statutory rates and thresholds for the current tax year. Rates are checked against official sources (GOV.UK, HMRC and ACAS) and updated when they change — most commonly each April, when a new tax year begins.
What this site is not
It's not a substitute for a qualified adviser. Every figure is an estimate based on standard assumptions — your actual circumstances (an unusual tax code, multiple income sources, a non-standard contract) can change the real number. For anything with real money riding on it, check the result against an official source or speak to a professional.
Your data
Nothing you type into a calculator is sent anywhere. Every calculation runs in your browser using JavaScript — see the Privacy Policy for the full detail.
Found a rate that looks wrong, or a calculator that doesn't match your payslip? Statutory rates and thresholds change often, and edge cases are easy to miss. Email hello@theclearsum.com and it'll be checked.
